WHERE DID THE CELTS CHOOSE TO SETTLE?

This term we go back to The Iron Age. We are going back around a 1000 years to learn about The Celts.

We are looking at a new exciting book all about Civilasations which links all of the children's learning subject knowledge from The Stone Age, Egyptians and now Iron Age.

The book tells us about Wesley. A boy who doesn't quite fit in but one who loves to learn about think outside the box. A lovely creative story, exploring children's imagination and creativity.

MATHEMATICS

In Year 3 we are teaching for mastery in our maths lessons. Through carefully planned teaching and the support of a 'Power Maths' scheme we enable all children to access the maths curriculum at their level and open up opportunities for all children to work within a mastery approach.

Mastering maths means pupils acquiring a deep, long-term, secure and adaptable understanding of the subject. The phrase ‘teaching for mastery’ describes the elements of classroom practice and school organisation that combine to give pupils the best chances of mastering maths.Achieving mastery means acquiring a solid enough understanding of the maths that’s been taught to enable pupils to move on to more advanced material.

As a teaching team across phase and with teaching assistants, we work closely to plan, assess and evaluate each lesson to ensure the needs of every child are met. Additional time can be given in the afternoons or mornings if a child has struggled with a concept or we feel they need some pre learning to aid them in their understanding.

The children also have access to TTrockstars, Mymaths and Numbots to support their Maths progression though app and online resources.

This term we will focus on the following topics;

  •  Multiplication and Divison ( 3, 4, 8)
  • Reasoning and Problem Solving
  •  Comparing mixed number
  • Times Tables

GEOGRAPHY

The children this term how a new topic looking at The Iron Age and The Celts. This gives the children a new depth of chronolgy and understanding using their timelines. The children will explore what it means to belong to a settlement and why the celts chose the areas they did.

Alongside our geography curriculum (see link at top of page), we have been continuing to look at our chosen class city of Bucharest. This work began in Transition week and the children took a keen interest in researching and discovering how life in Romania compares to ours here in Warrington. We continue to grow our knowledge and are adding to our Bucharest display as the year goes on.

WAS EVERYTHING MADE OF STONE? WAS EVERYTHING MADE OF STONE?

HISTORY

This year as part of our History topic we are focusing on Egypt. We will be looking at the ancient civilisation and enquiring about Egypt's history. We will be looking at timelines, artefacts, people and events in order to gain an understanding and insight into how one of the greatest civilisations affected the world we know today.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

PE

Throughout the year we cover a number of PE skills, games and health and wellbeing.

PE is every Thursday afternoon so the children will need full PE kit in school. As the cold is still here, the children will need outdoor PE kit as we use the playgrounds and running track.

This term we are covering floor movement and dynamic balance, as well as games and running. We use the Jasmine Real PE sessions.

Our PE lessons will be supported by a PE specialist, Mr Taylor.

boris heart(1)

As part of our weekly class worship, the children are once again joined by the lovable Boris, to help us to be 'Heartsmart'. The children have been enjoying Boris' guidance as they display our Christian and school values to their peers and teachers.

READING

Reading - please hear your child read at least 3 times per week and record this in their reading record.  Children also need to complete some Active Learn at home.

SPELLING

Spellings - please help your child to learn their spellings.

Spellings will run on a two week cyle.

Children are now placed into groups and practice their spellings using Read Write Inc. This scheme works on childrens spelling rules and patterns in a fun and enjoyable way.
