What we are learning about this term...

Our topic this half term is called Out of this World where we will be learning about Neil Armstrong and Tim Peake and learning about significant events within living memory, including the first moon landing!  We will also be looking at materials and their different properties.

Subject Focus.

Our Curriculum

You can find our Long Term Planning here.

How you can support us.

Reading

Reading with your child is the most important thing you can do to support their learning at home.

Please try and read every day and remember to record it in your child's reading diary.

Your child's Active Learn passwords are on the first page of their reading diary.  If you have any trouble signing in online, please ask one of us.

We are all taking part in the Round the World Reading Challenge which allows your child to 'travel' to new world destinations each time they read at home at least three times a week for ten weeks.  Don't forget, Active Learn will count as a read and make sure you record any additional books you read at home together! Let's get reading!

Spellings

We have daily phonics lessons and follow the Letters and Sounds programme.  Year Two children will bring spellings home to learn and be tested on these each week.  In Year One, we have a spelling focus each week which we practice together in class.

Homework

Your child will bring home a termly homework project based on activities which support our current topic.  Have fun working together and be as creative as you like!

Key Information.

P.E.

Our PE lesson is on a Friday.  Please send your child into school with a draw-string bag with their named PE kit inside.  They will be outside (weather permitting) most weeks, so please make sure they have joggers and long-sleeved jogging top for when the weather is cold!

Water Bottles and Snack

We will provide a water bottle for your child but please feel free to provide their own with their name on, if you wish.

Toast and milk can be ordered from Parent Pay for break times at the end of each half term.  However, if your child would prefer to bring in a snack from home, please be aware that this must be either fruit or toast.  No crisps, biscuits or cereal bars please.

All children have access to fruit at play time.

Uniform

Please make sure all school clothes and coats are named.  Thank you!

Book Bags

Due to lack of space, please can you send your child in with a school standard book bag rather than a rucksack.  Thank you :)

Library

We will be visiting Padgate Library each term to hear a story and choose a book which we will keep at school to read.  These are really valuable learning opportunities and help foster a life long love for reading.

Image result for trips and visitsDue to the ongoing school closures due to Covid-19, we have postponed our visit from ZooLab until later in the year.
