Here at Cinnamon Brow, we live and breathe reading.

Over the last three years, reading has been transformed at Cinnamon Brow C of E Primary School.

Cinnamon Brow Warrington Certif Dec 2020

Reading for purpose and pleasure has a high profile across our school. It is central to the School Improvement Plan and permeates through all areas of teaching and learning, staff training and appraisal.

As a result we were awarded the School Improvement Liverpool Silver Reading Quality Mark in December 2020.

Over the last three years we have developed our own reading journey ensuring that all of our pupils have the opportunities to have an enriched and fulfilled experience of reading.

You can take a look at the Cinnamon Brow Reading Journey above and walk through the reading experience all the children have through their time with us here at Cinnamon Brow.

Reading Ambassadors

We have reading ambassadors from Year 2 up to Year 6. They promote a love of reading throughout their classes and the whole school, bringing suggestions to the table of what quality texts they would like to hear as class reads, or find to read in the various libraries around school.

Over the coming months we are excited about what ideas the Reading Ambassadors have for expanding and improving our reading provision across the school!

Reading Areas

Throughout school we have a multitude of reading areas where children can take time out to read their teacher directed books through the school day. In Key Stage Two we provide all our children with three different books:

  • Teacher Directed - a book that challenges your child, it could be an author they haven't read before, or a genre they wouldn't necessarily choose themselves. This is to broaden your child's reading experience and enhance a love of all books.
  • Non-Fiction - our children are given the opportunity to take home a non-fiction text that allows them to explore different forms of text, to learn new things and provides children with the opportunity to explore new interests.
  • Free Choice - means exactly that. In our free choice section you can find books by popular authors such as Jacqueline Wilson, David Walliams, Dave Pilkey. Children can take the free choice texts home to read at their leisure.

Please visit the Early Years and Phonics page for EYFS and KS1 information here.

World Book Day

Every year we share stories and have a multitude of activities to celebrate World Book Day.

This year we had the masked reader - you can take a look at our videos here.

Book Fairs

Annually we have the Book Bus and the Scholastic Travelling Book Fair.

In 2021 we will be exploring an online book fair in the summer term - watch this space!
